See Something. Say Something. Do Something.
A Community Pledge for Awareness, Responsibility, and Action
At JLD Community Solutions, we believe that creating safer communities begins with care, courage, and personal accountability.
The “See Something. Say Something. Do Something.” pledge is a simple but powerful reminder that we all have a role to play in looking out for one another.
This pledge is not about judgment, fear, blame, or false accusations. It is about paying attention with compassion. It is about recognizing when someone we know may be struggling, becoming involved in unhealthy behaviors, or heading down a dangerous path — and choosing not to ignore it.
Sometimes, the first step toward prevention is simply noticing that something is wrong.
What Does It Mean to “See Something”?
To see something means to be aware of the people around us.
It means paying attention when a loved one, friend, student, neighbor, or young person shows signs that they may be in a vulnerable or dangerous place.
That may include signs of:
- Depression, grief, isolation, or mental/emotional distress
- Anger, hopelessness, or talk of harming themselves or others
- Involvement in unhealthy or unsafe environments
- Gang activity, drug use, drug dealing, or other dangerous behaviors
- Being influenced by the wrong crowd
- Access to firearms during a time of emotional crisis or instability
Seeing something does not mean assuming the worst. It means caring enough to notice.
What Does It Mean to “Say Something”?
To say something means to have the courage to speak up when something does not feel right.
That may look like:
- Checking in with the person directly: “Are you okay?”
- Telling a trusted adult, mentor, parent, coach, pastor, counselor, or community leader
- Reaching out to an organization that can provide support
- Contacting appropriate authorities when there is an immediate safety concern
- Encouraging someone to get help before the situation gets worse
-
Saying something should be done with wisdom, compassion, and care. The goal is not to shame or accuse anyone. The goal is to help prevent harm and connect people with the right support..
What Does It Mean to “Do Something”?
To do something means taking a responsible step toward safety, support, or prevention.
Sometimes, doing something may involve a direct and courageous action — such as helping remove access to firearms from a close loved one or friend who is in an extremely vulnerable situation and may be a danger to themselves or others.
But not everyone is in a position to safely take that kind of action.
Doing something may also mean:
- Calling a trusted family member or mentor
- Connecting someone with counseling, mental health support, or crisis resources
- Asking a community organization, school, faith leader, or outreach group for help
- Helping someone safely store firearms outside the home during a crisis
- Calling 988 for mental health crisis support
- Calling 911 if there is immediate danger
- Staying present, checking in, and refusing to ignore warning signs
Doing something does not mean putting yourself in harm’s way. It does not mean confronting someone in a dangerous situation alone. It does not mean making accusations without care or evidence.
It means choosing responsible action over silence.
What This Pledge Is Not
This pledge is not about:
- Falsely accusing others
- Labeling people as dangerous without reason
- Encouraging unsafe confrontation
- Asking anyone to put themselves in harm’s way
- Taking the place of trained professionals
- Handling a crisis alone
-
If there is immediate danger, contact emergency services. If someone is experiencing a mental health crisis, connect them with trained support.
The Pledge
I pledge to care enough to pay attention.
When I see someone struggling, becoming involved in harmful behavior, or heading toward a dangerous path, I will not ignore it.
I will speak up with wisdom, compassion, and courage.
When possible, I will take responsible action to help connect that person with support, safety, and the right resources.
I understand this pledge is not about blame or accusation. It is about community, accountability, prevention, and love.
I pledge to:
See Something.
Say Something.
Do Something.
A Final Word
This is not about politics. It is about people.

I TAKE THE PLEDGE
See Something. Say Something. Do Something.
A community pledge for awareness, responsibility, and action.
Add your name to the pledge. Every commitment is a visible reminder that our community is choosing to pay attention, speak up, and take responsible action when it matters most.
