JLD Leadership Program

Set to launch in 2025, the JLD Community Solutions Leadership Program aims to empower young men of color to become effective community leaders. This innovative program consists of the following three phases:

Phase I.   Intensive Pilot Experience

In phase 1 we will begin with the first cohort opening this in-depth program to six young men of color in grades 9-11 attending Lexington Senior High School. Participants will engage in workshops and leadership sessions covering essential topics such as:

  • College and career readiness
  • Financial literacy
  • Communication & life skills
  • Community involvement and volunteerism

Pilot Program Desired Outcomes:

  • At least 90% of participants report improved confidence in their abilities, have a stronger sense of self-worth, and are inspired to engage with the community (such as volunteering or participating in local events) by the end of the program
  • Each participant paired with a mentor who shares similar life experiences, with 90% reporting a meaningful connection
  • 100% of participants identify at least three potential career paths and set measurable academic or career goals
  • 100% of participants create a personal budget and understand basic financial concepts like saving and credit management with at least 50% of participants opening a bank account (with parental guardian)
  • At least 50% of participants connected to resources for scholarships, grants, or other funding opportunities for higher education
  • 90% of participants develop and refine a personal narrative that effectively communicates their background, goals, and aspirations and showcase their storytelling during the graduation ceremony
  • At least 50% of participants (with parental guardian) attend a tailored educational and immersive field trip to enhance the learning experience
  • At least 90% participant completion with culminating graduation ceremony recognizing participants who complete the program

Phase II.   Broader Community Outreach

In phase 2, we plan to offer condensed versions of our workshops and leadership sessions to young men across the Triad area in the future. The delivery method (in-person or virtual) is still being determined. Future plans are to collaborate with the school system to develop an extra credit program for young men who participate in these sessions.

Phase III.   Volunteer Action Team

In phase 3, we plan to expound upon the program and develop an ongoing "Volunteer Action Team". This expansion of the program will be designed to give the young men an opportunity to identify problems in the school or in their community that they would like to help improve. Then equip them with the necessary resources to plan and execute their strategy. The expected outcome is to help develop the young men's leadership and problem solving skills while directly making a positive impact in their school and community.

Our goal is to foster community engagement, develop leadership skills, and personal growth among young men of color, preparing them for life and future success.

Stay tuned for more details as we finalize the program structure and registration process.
