JLD Community Solutions

Leadership Program

The JLD Community Solutions Leadership Program aims to empower young men of color to become effective leaders and active community servants. This innovative program consists of two parts:

1. Intensive Pilot Experience

This in-depth program will be open to five young men of color in grades 7-11 attending Lexington Senior High School. Participants will engage in workshops and leadership sessions covering essential topics such as:

  • Conflict resolution
  • Mental health awareness
  • Communication skills
  • Education and career development
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Financial literacy
  • Community involvement and volunteerism

The program will also include tailored field trips to enhance practical learning experiences.

Pilot Program Highlights:

  • Mentorship opportunities with community leaders from organizations such as Lexington City Council, Lexington Tourism, the Chamber of Commerce, and local churches
  • Potential scholarship offers for program graduates accepted to accredited universities, community colleges, or trade schools
  • A culminating graduation ceremony recognizing participants who complete the training

2. Broader Community Outreach

Throughout the year, we will offer condensed versions of our workshops and leadership sessions to young men across the Triad area. The delivery method (in-person or virtual) is still being determined. We plan to collaborate with the school system to develop an extra credit program for young men who participate in these sessions.

Our goal is to foster leadership skills, community engagement, and personal growth among young men of color, preparing them for future success and active citizenship.

Stay tuned for more details as we finalize the program structure and registration process.
